630 Governor/Powr Trol Idler Gear Shaft

So my intention was to install new bushings in the idler gear between governor and powr trol pump. I was noticing a whine when the pump was engaged. Got the pump off, removed the small pin holding the idler gear shaft, and started to pull the shaft out. Pulled the shaft out until it was against the flywheel. I now realize that I either have to remove the flywheel or remove the entire governor housing. Now seems to be a bigger project than I anticipated.

Which would be the easiest to remove with as little re-installation adjustment as possible? Or maybe I am better off putting it back together and living with the whine when I am using the powr trol pump?

Pull the flywheel. It has been awhile since i did this but I dont remember if the flywheel needs to come all the way off or just slid out a bit. If you put it back together and live with the noise it can only get worse to where the gear might seize on the shaft and spin the shaft. You dont want that to happen.

It's been a couple of years since I worked on one, but I'm pretty sure that you won't find the bushings listed separately from the idler gear - they want you to buy a new gear with bushings installed. If you look the parts book over carefully, you can find bushings for the hydraulic pump that are available. Both shafts are 1". I've used the pump bushings in the idler gear. They might have to be shortened a tiny bit - been long enough that I might be confusing projects though. I remember touching the bushing to a belt grinder because it was an eighth or so too long.

Don't drop the two shaft washers when you pull the shaft out.

Here's the oiler that BuickDeere mentioned. I think the loop needs to be horizontal on a 630. Picture is of a 50.
