I?m changing the transmission oil in my A. The book says 90W oil, I?m thinking about this, is it good? What else should I look for?
Thanks.

Depending on the year model and serial number of your Model A tractor, there are two different oil weights recommended and two different quantities.

Take a look at the table below for the three different operator's manuals for the Model A.

Take a look at the [b:654c4848f0]TRANSMISSION LUBRICATION[/b:654c4848f0] information below from [b:654c4848f0]OM-R000R[/b:654c4848f0].

Note that 140 weight is recommended and the oil capacity is 8 gallons.

Note that 90 weight is recommended for 0o F. and UP and the oil capacity is 7 gallons.

Note that 80 weight is recommended for Below 0o F. and the oil capacity is 7 gallons.

Take a look at the photos below of the location of the two drain plugs and the filler plug.

Mr Howell gave you a great run down on different weights of gear oil. I use 80-90 wt in both my A and my 50. You can get it at tractor supply or about any auto parts store. They also make a 85-140 wt gear oil. The first time I drained my 50 it came out looking like pancake mix, who knows how long it had been in there, water in the gear oil is not your friend. Good luck

The last sentence says "Each year the trans should be drained and washed out". I wonder if there is a single tractor that had that done once a year?LOL I have drained some interesting syurp out of different tractors over the years. Thanks for taking time to post the info you listed. I wish my computer skills were better as even posting pics does not go great for me. Tom

The photos that are uploaded come from two sources; camera and scanned images.

These photos were uploaded directly from "[i:654c4848f0]lubrication[/i:654c4848f0]" folders on the hard drive of a desktop computer.

Any photos uploaded to YT appear at the bottom of the message.

The image code is then selected, cut, and then pasted where the image is to appear within the message.

Thanks to everyone who replied! I bought 7 gallons of the oil, and I?ll probably change the oil today (since it?s raining).
