JD engine interchange

Hi, I have a 300 JD loader backhoe with the 3 cylinder engine.. the injection pump is beyond repair and impossible to find another. I read that later 300 tractors had a 4 cylinder. I was wondering what engines would bolt up to my transmission/bellhousing. I have my eye on an old street sweeper that has a 4 cylinder JD engine and was wondering if there was any possibility of it fitting my tractor. It is too far away to get a look at it, it is for sale by auction tomorrow morning.

Four cyl is longer than three. Would work if you had a hood stretcher and line stretcher.

As D said it will bolt in,,it will be too long,,I have thought about it on my 310 hoe,,you would need to do a lot of alterations to the loader frame, as well as the hood and lines..

All 300's,301's and 302's were 3 cylinders. An injection pump should not be that hard to find as the 1020 ag tractor is the same. Try salvage yards on the east coast because many utility tractors were sold there compared to the midwest. Greenspring tractor and Wengers would be a good place to start as both are in PA.There were lots of utility tractors sold in North and South Carolina for use on tobacco farms. If you have the small style pump you will need to convert to the large pump and that will require buying a set of lines as well.Tom

Well I guess it should be worth a couple hundred for scrap iron. It's ridiculous that no one makes replacement parts for the injection pump.
I'm sure there must be more than a few 3 cyl JDs in the world.

I second what Tom said. Just a matter of looking in the right place and changing some lines.

I spent two days on the phone to every wrecker that I could find on the internet with no luck whatsoever.

Here's some JDB inj pumps for sale that will fit your 300. You'll also need a set of inj lines. Just perform a Google search for these numbers (JDB331AL2405 or JDB331MD2797)

If you don't mind bending the fuel lines about 30 degrees you can install a head from a Ford 3cyl injection pump. I have done it and it does work. I also think I have a used head here that will fit that pump from a JD. Al 231/757/0064
