JD B clutch help

I have a newly acquired 44 B and the clutch doesn't want to disengage completely. It keeps spinning even disengaged. I don't get much of a snap. I have a I&T manual and have tried to adjust it as it says but doesn't seem to help. I have to nearly stand on it to get it to stop long enough to put it in gear. Can someone tell me what to try next?

Not sure about what your problem is exactly...

There is the possabillity that the clutch is disengaging "Too Far".. and starting to re-Engage...

Some had an adjustable "Stop", some used the Clutch Brake to prevent this...

Could be you have a broken friction plate that is wedging together and making it a dangerous situation...!

Take the clutch apart and look at every clutch friction plate/Lining..including the one behind the Clutch Driver..just to be Sure...

While you are at it, pull the clutch out and LUBE it...they seldom get attention and usually need it badly...

If you don't find a problem where B.P. said to look, best to take the pulley off and check bearings where it rides the crankshaft. Roller bearing at the outer end and bronze bushing at the drive gear end. The pulley should turn freely and just a little end play with the clutch disengaged.

Checkout the three springs behind the outer disk and the pulley. When you pull the lever to the dis-engaged position, the
mechanisms only "take the squeeze off" of the clutch pack but those three springs open the pack up letting it stop. If the springs
are only a rusted shadow of their original selves, what you describe is exactly what they'll do!

Had this start to happen on my 44 A. When took it apart to check the discs, a really simple task, part of one of the disc facings had come loose and was wedged in between giving it enough contact to keep spinning but would stop when the clutch handle was pulled all the way back. A new set of discs and all was well again.

Thanks everyone! I took it all apart and cleaned. Nothing was broke that I could see. It's all back together and seems to be working much better.
