I installed a new shifter guide plate in the console of our 4240, and cannot get enough spring pressure to hold the shift lever snugly in park.
The shift lever won't snug up to the notch in park.
The attached photo has the park cable bell crank circled. Where this attaches to the park cable, I can move it up and down about 2 inches without the shift lever moving. Is this normal to have that much slack in the shift linkage? It seems that with that much play in it, it does not matter where I have the park cable adjusted, as there is too much movement just in the shifter console to make it hold properly in the park notch.
Thank you for any help!
