Is this correct? 1962 or for 1960-63 4010 DIESEL row crop tractor. Is the rear steel rim, 14 X 38 inches. Is the rear tire (bar type) a 15.5 X 38 only.

For 1964-1972 4020 row crop tractor. What is the size of rim? Also could the 4020 have 16.9 X 38 or 18.4 X 38 or 18.4 X 34?

thank you for your help stano

I like them also but I don't see to many 4010 with them. I am wondering if the ones I see are changed from 15.5.

thank you stano

Your 4010 would have came new with 15.5x38's. Many 4010's also had 18.4x34's. On 4020's I prefer the 18.4x34's as I have 4 here like that now and one with 15.5x38. 16.9x38's look better than the 15.5's but I feel that 18.4x38's look oversized on a 4020. They also raise the drawbar up to much. The 15.5's are mainly found where the farmers used mounted corn pickers and front mount cultivators. Tom

15.5.38 and upgraded to 480:80:38 both on 14 inch rims

My '63 4010 gas came with 16.9x34 originally on 14x34 rims. It currently has 18.4x34 on 16x34 rims. Around here NEIL, it's common to see them on either 34s or 38s.

I have a 63 4010 it has 34x18.4 rear tires they work will. Bought it with them on so not sure what the width of the rims are.

With 14x38 rims your tractor would have came with 15.5x38 tires. That was a supper common tire size during the early 1960s. The JD 4010 could have came with the 18.4 x 34 tires from the factory. The 18.4x38 tires were never a factory option on a JD 4010.

A common step up on the 15.5 x 38 tires would be 16.9x38 tires. They are just a little wider but are taller. I think the 18.4x38 tires look odd when mounted on the narrow 14 inch rim.

On any taller rear tires, if you do not change the front tires at the same time, the tractor looks funny running down hill.

The 18.4x34 is very common but as you already have the 38 in castings the 16.9x38 would be a good choice but 14 rims would be a little narrow and 16 would be better. You will gain lift height and MPH but your gearing in tillage gears will also be faster.

thank you for your info on the tires. I wasn't sure if there was a option of 18.4 by 34 on early 4010's . we have 15.5 by 38 on now and one is new and one is really bad but holds air.

the 15.5 by 38 new one that is on the 4010 now, seems to be a little higher profile and slightly narrower than the 15.5 by 38 that was on the tractor from when it was new.????? Maybe the brand is made different???

now is maybe the fourth set from new that I can remember..

thank you stano

My 68 3020D row crop has 15.5/38s on it...which I thought was the preferred tire on row crop tractors due to narrower width.

15.5.38 is one of the worst sizes there is to not be the same size as another 15..5.38 I have 6 of em here and the only two that are the same size are the two brand new alliance brand

We sold a few 4010 with 18x30 tires , we sold 50 tractors and most common was 18x34 and 15.5x 38, You could order anything for them Even 12x42 tires usually duals .
