4430 Rear End Noise

Took the final drive off left side because of oil leak around axle. Carried to mechanic and thought noise I was hearing was coming from bearing. He told me area around seal was letting it leak oil but bearing was ok and repaired. Anything I can check before putting final drive back on? Thanks!

Any time you have the axle off an older unit the outer bearing should be changed...and the pre-load reset.I do it when I check brakes here,,you are only a couple steps away from it all.. An old guy told me once that "It's better to do it right the first time, than to explain why didn't latter"

Havent picked it up yet, but I think he did replace bearing. Wondering about noise now and if there is anything else I can check while I have it off?
