Load shaft shims

I've been putting off replacing the load shaft bushings and seals (O-rings and washers?) on my 301A until warmer weather. Everyone seems to suggest using washers or shims to eliminate all side to side play in the load shaft (pin?). The parts diagrams don't seem to show any shims. Should I just use as many thrust washers (part R43216 now replaced by R66197) as will fit, or should I look for some thinner "shims" of about the same OD and ID as the thrust washer? Where would I find such thinner shims and what are they called? The diameter of the load shaft is listed as .815"

Here's one washer that should fit.

Thanks Tx Jim

Finding information on parts is frustrating for a geezer like me who only occasionally works on a tractor. After switching search engines, I finally found some information on the R66197 Thrust Washer

I suspect that is the washer I should use.

JD's parts catalog authors sure have the part number hidden for that washer(key 14). In photo washer appears to resemble a bushing more than a washer.

I have a machinery bushing assortment and it has thick and thin washers that work perfectly for shimming the load control shaft. ( I do not know why they call them bushings when they are washers).

Also check the sides of the transmission case and the inside of the saddle. They get ridges worn into them. So you can not get a shim to fit but they are loose after a little use. I just take an angle grinder and straight edge and grind them as flat as I can get them. You can then fit shims better.
