JOHN DEERE MODEL H 1940

I rebuilt this 1940 John Deere model h. Complete new engine, crank, bearings, piston, rings. babbits, runs great. I am only getting 5lbs of oil pressure. Replaced oil Gage with my engine Gage. still only 5 oil pressure even above idle. Opened crank cover and removed all lines all clean, oil pump gears are clean and in excellent shape. tight drive gears and cam shaft. Stumped????? were to go next? thanks

Check book for pressure adjustment. Gasket
or clearance on pump gears. Leak in the
pipes or fittings.

If you're certain you have no leaks, and that you are getting an accurate pressure reading, the oil pressure can be adjusted. Remove a pipe plug in the transmission case below and to the rear of the belt pulley. Insert a straight screwdriver and turn the slotted screw inside that is on the oil pump housing. Turning the adjusting screw OUT decreases pressure, and turning the screw IN increases pressure. Look for around 10-15 PSI at high idle. Don't try this with the engine running or it might eat your screwdriver...

If you had the filter housing apart you may have a leaking gasket on the top part. Had that happen last winter to one. New gasket and it was fine again.

In addition to the below info I have seen plenty of them with crushed oil filter housing cans too. And that usually busts up the cast iron top piece. I'd check all that out.

Thanks again for all the advise! What i found out was the pump gears were loosing prime. I removed the gear cover slightly as to let a small amount of oil and air out. reinstalled the bolts. Pressure returned. After the second time it will now stay up and run at 10-15 lbs continuously ever time I start it up. Great feeling
