G brake- Somethings wrong

The brake on my G was full of oil and grease so I took the brake off and brought it to the dealer who cleaned everything disassembled and reassembled it. Now, to get the drum on you have to back the adjusting bolt way off. When you try to adjust the brake it?s impossible to turn the adjusting bolt in anywhere close to where it should be. The petal then will push all the the way down without expanding the shoes. The top of the front shoe seems to be to high and won?t move down which seems to be the reason it can?t be adjusted. Did they assemble something wrong? Are the shoes reversed?

Had one brake on an 820 (2-cyl) was kinda like that; push the brake down and it would go about half way and not apply the brake, just like it was hitting something. When I disassembled it the cam was messed up on the brake pedal shaft. Fixed that and it was fine.

That floating pin through the pedal shaft could be installed backwards. Doesn't look like it's contacting the discs or has jumped over on one. Reversing the shoes won't matter.

The part in the bottom of the picture behind the quarter size metal disc is installed upside down. It just slides into the hole. When you step on the brake pedal it should act like a wedge and force the brake shoes apart.

Agree with [b:654c4848f0]JDBRIDER[/b:654c4848f0] that "[i:654c4848f0]The part in the bottom of the picture behind the quarter size metal disc is installed upside down.[/i:654c4848f0]"

Take a look at the photo below of the right brake on "[b:654c4848f0]1011[/b:654c4848f0]" one of our 1953 Model 70s.

Hope this helps.

It's hard to see but looks like the cam needs to be turned.
If so just twist it half a turn.

As long as you have to disassemble it, might be a good time to put some grease on all moving parts. Will help to keep it operating smoothly long into the future. Grease the shaft the little wheels run on, the actuating cam in the part that rotates it, where the shoes ride on the housing, and the adjuster screw and slide parts. As much as making it work easier, the grease keeps moisture, thus rust in check. Just a thought as long as you are there....
