3020 tachometer

I'm going to disagree with you on that. I haven't had much luck with the quality of the aftermarket tacs. I haven't had one rebuilt yet but that's what I'm going to try next.

The last one I bought from Deere only worked for 99.9 hours. It would not roll over 100. The dealer said sorry no warranty as over 90 days. I have an aftermarket one on the 4520 but have less than 250 hours on it so far. Tom

(quoted from post at 22:34:14 04/17/19) Anybody ever try reviving one that?s stuck

New aftermarket ones are only 70 bucks so that is what I did, I would like to find that place that sets hours on the replacements though.

Repair of my console 4020 tach was about $300 including new glass and dial face. Jury is still out on quality of repair. Needle seemed to bounce a bit in cold weather this winter. Hope it smooths out in warmer weather. Only have a few hours on rebuild right now.

I have had good luck with Haim Zeevi at Star Speedometer. I had him totally restore my original 4010 tach last year after it quit and froze up. He has done at least half dozen or more of different tachs for me the last several years. Most all have been around $235-300 restored with a new cable. Like someone else said call and get an estimate, he has different levels of service and prices. I used to use a different place out of Arkansas before, but after the last one I sent took 3 months and not sure if I was gonna get my tach back from them I decided to try Star and have been very happy ever since. The aftermarkets are not worth buying, most of them are not even calibrated right.

You might check with evergreen restoration, I know Jerry can put the hours you want on it , not sure if he rebuilds then or not.

I worry about the quality of the cheap ones but John Deere wants almost 400$ for a stupid taco tac I know or a few that are 20 years old that are still going I wonder if you could get a deca to cover up the taco

I installed a cheap one from eBay on the 3010. It reads slower then the engine is running. And the 540 pto line is at 1900 and with a hand held take on the pro shaft it should be at 2100. My be different with 3020 rpms I don't know. But it is a least a close guide for pto figure out the difference.

This topic surfaces from time and the last it did I thought someone said that Jerry Trcka and Evergreen Resto had shut down.

Jerry Trcka has not shut down. Along with restoring guages and Speed-hour meters, He is now also recovering steering wheels.

Try pulling the guts out of your tach cable and oiling it reel good and reinstall. That often helps with needle bounce. Read it in an old service bulletin years ago. Tom
