3010 shift pattern

The shift pattern decal on my 3010 doesn't show a reverse in the "high" range with 4 and 7. I can shift into that reverse, although I didn't realize it for probably 25 years. It is a utility, with a serial number of 1165. Most I have seen show three reverses. Is this common?

When it gets painted the universal decal set is geared towards the 20 series that didn't have the third reverse. You can get the correct decal singally on eBay.

The 10 series had 3 reverse gears. John Deere decided that 3rd reverse was to fast so the 20 series only had two sort of. The gear is still in the tractor but they put a tab in the shift column to lock it out. After much wear at all that tab wore down and let the shifter go in anyway. So by now most 20 series tractors have 3 reverse gears even though they didn't when new.

I was told yrs back that all Syncro-range trans have 4 reverses if slots were cut out to allow room for shifter handle BUT The last 2 reverse speeds are FAST

Tx Jim has it right there are 4 reverses in the trans. Each reverse is 1/3 faster than the forward gear and when used excessively the third reverses caused some issues in the 10 series tractors so it was blocked off in the 20's. My 3020 loader tractor has enough wear that the third reverse works and we use it a good bit when gathering up round bales in the field. Tom
