My JD is showing a little over 6000 hours. I am fairly certain it's correct. I have no idea what it was used for before I got it. What ever it was, it was PTO operated. No loader or back hoe mounting marks. My question is: something operated over 6000 hours PTO time probably a mower of some sort. I have been using it for my flail mower about 8 years now. Is this a lot of hours of continuous PTO time? Stan

That?s a lot of hours but a lot of tractors spend a lot of time running the pto like on a feed mixer some of those tractor will 12 or 14 hours a days or more for their entire lifespan . 1/3 of the hours I put on my tractors are running the power harrow or a swather or a baler . One thing about a John Deere Of that vintage it was built to be used

Hours is not as hard on them as poor maintenance would be. Those need to have the coolant additives maintained to prevent sleeve cavitation. And of course regular oil changes. Also using the proper hydraulic oil so your brake linings do not disintegrate and plug everything up.
