The oats are in, the manure's spread and last week I got started plowing for the row crops. Had to call the 49 A in to do some relief pitching for my 60 when the generator stopped charging. With 70 equipment I find it good to keep a full stable...

Nice looking well maintained equipment. I should have been out today but still running a fever from some bug. Your soil color looks like PA maybe? I moved to WI from MD 15 years ago. Nice thing about your dirt is you can pull a plow out of a fence row and two rounds later the bottoms look like a mirror. Here in my heavy soil any rust or dirt on a plow bottom and you have a total mess. Good to see older equipment still in use. We farm with mostly 10 and 20 series tractors. Thanks for posting. Tom

Pete, Great pics, Thanks for posting. Can not imagine anyone getting in the fields here in (north central) Ohio but we are getting close. We made it a
goal to get our oats planted in March when I was a kid but can remember planting in April while it was snowing once.

Waiting to see the results of your manure application . Dan

The first entry says "Pete in Pennsylvania". I missed it the first time reading so your question of "PA maybe?" is totally valid!

I looked at it a second time after posting and picked up that it said from PA. Sometimes the brain does not process as fast the eyes scan or maybe it is old age.LOL Tom

Where I grew up in North west corner of PA, we would not be thinking of plowing yet. To flat and to much clay. Your ground looks great!

Oh My! What a collection of workers! Need any help? Where in Pa are you? Still making syrup here 1 hr N of the 1000 islands in Ontario.
Thank you so much for sharing the photos!

We have a heavy clay soil on the home farm and some shale on the slopes. Much of the ground lays wet in the winter but in mid March it dried down enough to give it a go and somehow we ended up a bit ahead of schedule. We don't farm many acres either and half is in hay so I can afford the time it takes to plow 2-3 bottoms at a time. Thanks to all who responded. I always enjoy hearing about farming in other corners of the country. Having grown up in eastern PA, the problem of getting a plow to properly scour is not one that I am familiar with.

In heavy clay the plow won?t scour and the dirt just
sticks like glue you have to take a putty knife to the
moldboards after every pass and eventually they
will start to shine again

I put 300 acres of plowing through a 2 and 3 bottom
plow last year

Wow, 300 acres. Good for you, what tractor do you use with that plow? About how many acres do you get out of a set of shares in your part of the country? Around here I am lucky to get about 10 acres out of a set of disposable shares.

I had a 3020 on a 2 bottom rollover 314
international . and a 4020 on 642 international
rollover. 3 16 inch bottoms . Also did a Little with the
3020 on a f130 3x14 John Deere with blacksmith
shares I didn?t do much with it because those
shares 150$ each plus shipping! A set of points
hard surfaced shares will go about 150 acres unless
a lot rocks then you can break a lot of parts quick
