1951 John Deere A

My friend just bought a JD a that had been sitting for a few months. We got it running today and the clutch is stuck in the engaged position. Any ideas on getting it unstuck other than disassembling it? Thanks in advance.

Can you not pull the lever back, or is the lever pulled back and the clutch is still stuck engaged?

If the latter, it should shake loose if run long enough.

Or, if this can be done safely, start it in gear and drive it around with the clutch pulled, loading it on and off with the brakes and it should come loose.

I looked at a 50 last fall that was stuck in the engaged position in neutral. We just loosened the three castle nuts on the clutch and that did the trick. Of course after running a few minutes it needs to be tightened up again but I think they often get tight like that when they sit
