Clayman 830 Pony Engine

Clayman...the drive gear on the pony transmission that engages with the diesel engine flywheel ring gear will turn both ways when it is not engaged. I would concentrate on getting the pony motor to run and then sort out any issues with clutch/transmission. The pony starting motor will not turn unless the clutch is fully engaged and the flywheel is turning in the right direction. The pony transmission has an override clutch so that when the diesel engine starts the pony motor drive gear is disengaged so it doesn't damage the pony motor/transmission. I'm guessing your transmission/clutch is ok. If you need new coils to get the pony motor to run, buy a complete new box with American made coils and the correct spark plug wires. FYI, when you check the coils for spark, both plugs must be grounded for each side. Also, check your voltage at the coil box terminal to make sure you have a full 6 volts going to the coils when starting the pony engine. Bad ignition switches and resistors are common on tractors that have been sitting for some time..
