B carb or A carb

rebuilding a 1952 gas B that has been sitting for a very long time for a neighbor. he has lost the carb but has one off a parts A
gas tractor. any problems with putting the A carb on the B? i am going to have to rebuild it and then adjust it accordingly. Any
benefits?

I build hundreds in my retirement and my test tractor and my personal restored tractor is a '50 "B". I run a 71 , late "A" gas carb and cold gas "B" manifold on it. I used the gasket, which is same for B and A carbs, as a template and marked out the dia in manifold and with die grinder , opened it up to "A" size and tapered it back 3 to 4 " back into manifold. You need to take that "ledge" off that the air will hit and cause turbulence. This tractor runs excellent and I would say maybe a couple xtra hp. No dyno so who knows. I test every size single throat carb on this tractor. They all test perfect and have even had guys with late "G" (big nut carb) call me back and tell me the only adjustment they had to make was open load 1/4 turn. Everything else was spot on. You can NOT overfuel one of these engines. They only take what they need. Put the "A" carb on and taper out intake and don't look back. If it doesn't like it or floods....you have carb issues.

It will fit and run ,but will not be good long term. The larger A carb. will make your B run rich and foul plugs. I once bought a B from a guy for this very reason. Put the proper B carb. on it and problem went away.

I resurrected a 44 A, with many failed try's to getting to run well & poor threads on the stem I took
everything out of the A Carb & installed them is a cyclone B carb housing. Was rather surprised on how
well it runs. As of right now I have no plans on changing anything unless I find a known good correct
Carb off a 42/46 A. The Power is there I have Zero Issue's. Granted the throat is smaller, the float level
& screw adjustments are at or near normal settings.
