Does anyone sell the fiber disc that fits inside the housing that bolts to the cowl, my handle fit inside the casting and against the friction disc? Or rebuilds them, just a matter of gluing the disc in place.
thanks kurt
casting no is af 3849 r in my parts book

This site(YT) has the part you're looking for. Look at top of the page then click on "John Deere" scroll to model 730.

My interpretation of parts catalog noting tractor serial number indicates you need key 17B which is AF3847R with friction plates which is the part YT is showing.

I don't know is this is a "correct" restoration, or a working tractor, but for a working tractor, some years ago a friend's 720 had this issue, and I cut 2 circles of heavy leather from the "uppers" of an old work boot and punched 3 holes in them, one in the center, and two for the pins.

Rather than being slotted and glued to the center casting, the leather discs rotate with the levers because the pins pass through them, and wear against the center casting, providing the needed friction on the throttle.

So far the "fix" has held up just fine, although he doesn't put a whole lot of hours on the tractor, so time will tell!

If you don't want to $$$$ for a new casting, and it isn't a perfect restoration it mite be worth a try.

On the other hand, it doesn't look like the hood support changed over the years, I wonder if the newer-style steel plate with the frictions would be a bolt-in replacement? The lever was changed, wonder if that was a "fitment" change, or just to a bigger flange to "hide" the area around the friction pad plate?

Thanks Bob, I have some header gasket material that I'm going to use to see how it works. Not a super resto I just like to do things the right way the first time.
Case in point fuel problem I had was from PO putting a 8n fuel bowl in the by pass adapter below the tank and crushing the tube and screen when he screwed in the fuel bowl, I would get fuel when I bled filters but not enough to run motor after it used up the fuel in the filters. Drove me nuts till I took the bowl out to put the correct one in.

thanks all for your help
