Will a John Deere 420 engine direct fit a 40?

Hi, Will a John Deere 420 engine fit a 40 without any modifications?

. 1956 green hood 420 engine or a 1957/1958 yellow stripe hood ?
A few things different, starter mount in particular .

I bought a 420 a few yrs ago and didn?t look it over good. Got it home and it had a 40 engine in it. I took it out and put in a 430 engine. I don?t think I had
to change anything.

a jd 40 has no water pump. so your piping of the water pipes will be different.
also included is the difference of the radiator and the pipes coming out of the rad.
the 40 has no thermostat and the 420 does .
that being said the engine will bolt right up to the clutch housing of the 40.
i have seen this done before but there will have to be some inventive plumbing of your coolant
pipes.
