Deere 4010 ignition

My old 4020 wont wake up from winter nap. Still the old 24 volt diesel. She has been testy the last few years. Sometimes I'd turn the key and it would be dead. If I kept the key turned and ran the gear shift up and down a few times it would fire. The trick isn't working and I'm guessing there is a neutral safety switch or the ignition is bad. I pulled the dash out and the harness is a mess. The lights and cigarette lighter are not hooked up. Sure is a bunch of wires.

I just want to disc up my pumpkin patch not really wanting to take on a whole harness replacement. Where is the neutral switch on these old tractors?

Any tips or advice sincerely appreciated.

The neutral start switch on a 4010 is behind the shift lever, remove top cowl by tach. The 4020 neutral is behind the right battery box since you mentioned both in your text. Either one might need some adjustment by your moving the shift lever.

4010 neutral safety switch is in the "shifer drum" area under the "dash".

It is activated by lever #18.
