cylinder heat match-ups

Will an F486R flathead match up with an F48R block? My unstyled G will run, but I'm pretty sure the head is cracked since all the water I put in the radiator ends up in the cylinders. F49r heads aren't often available, so if I have to I'll use the F486R head with the F48R block. I'm going to have the shop look at it first since it would be nice to keep it like it is.

A F486R head will pour water down the pushrod openings of a F48R block. The F48R block has a wide opening at the deck for both pushrods. An F485R block and a styled block have individual pushrod openings at the deck surface, and a water opening between the pushrods that matches an opening on the F486R and styled heads.

The F48R block/F49R head combination has its own head gasket as well.

You can put a F49R head on a F485R block, but not a F486 head on a F48R block.

One of the first heads I repaired was a flat head G and It was cracked. Depending on where the crack is it might be a pretty easy repair as those G heads have large ports to work in.
