How hard is it to remove the injector pump from my 4020, and I?m concerned about re installing it and keeping it timed ?

Remove the two screw cover on the pump side, and turn the flywheel until the two marks inside line up. Flywheel should be at TDC then for 3020, 4020, and 5020 models.

Make sure you mark the pump base and engine block by scribing a line or punching a dot before you pull the pump. Align these marks when re installing pump.

Pump shaft is driven by an offset "tang" and it can only be installed into the engine one way.

But if the shaft is accidentally pulled out of injector pump it can be installed 180º "off". (Matching timing marks and dealing with easy-to-tear seals enters the picture at that point.

The offset tang looks good on paper, but I wish it was centered like the 1010 and 2010 pumps are. I STILL get pumps in with the offset tang installed wrong, which always wrecks the pump. Just finished a 3010 pump for that reason, at least if the shaft was centered, nothing would get broken, engine just would not start. There are also some tractors out that have been overhauled, and have the oil pump installed 1/2 turn off. SO, to correct that mistake the injection pump shaft is installed with location dots apart too. Just some of the wonderful things seen in over forty years and counting of diesel pump repair..

I got the flywheel at TDC and I pulled the plate with the two little screws and the two lines are aligned. Pretty obvious that I need to pull some fuel lines. Is there any tricks or anything I need to watch for

Mainly be clean as possible, especially going back together. Also MAKE SURE there are two banjo line washers, one on each side when going back on. If one is dropped, banjo line bolt will bottom in the hydraulic head, which will seize the rotor and break the drive shaft. E mail is open on Classic view if you have more questions..
