Where does everyone get their John Deere parts? I?m having
trouble finding a reputable site online that carries everything I
need, in particular steering pedestal gaskets.

If you don't have a convenient local dealer, sign up with a dealer on jdparts.com, pay with a credit card, and they'll ship the parts to you.

ok ill check it out. I have a local dealer, just expecting disappointment when I tell them it?s for a 1954 Model 70 lol

I usually check the JD parts online. Find the part number, enter it into the search then add to cart. After looking at the price and availability I start searching for aftermarket or used (nuff said). But check there first. Sometimes a dealer is the lower cost. Easy to order, too.

I always try to look up the part numbers in the on-line parts catalogs ahead of time and have them in hand when I go to the dealer. Depending who is on the counter I found it can save the "100 questions" and other aggravation. JD Parts will usually shown me part substitution/supersede numbers as well.

You will probably be surprised about how many parts are available from Deere for your 1954 model 70. They will probably not have them in stock, but will have them shipped in about three days. I make the parts order online. You can check the prices before you hit the "go" button, and then they'll send an order confirmation e-mail to you.

Lots of sites, like Yesterday's Tractors, sell some commonly needed gaskets, brake and clutch parts, and usually beat the Deere prices, but not always. I've been surprised several times that Deere prices were lower on bearings. Also on water pump repair parts.

Thanks guys! Yes I was surprised, I stopped at the dealer today, they pulled the diagram and looked up a few parts, and could order each one of them so they gave me the website to find them at home and either order or come back to them.

Also, if you have a few days, have them order your parts on their next stock order, which SHOULD be free freight, vs. a special order freight charge.
