Sputtering 2510 gas

I have a gas 2510 gas PS that we have had since it was a demonstrator. Originally it was our largest tractor now its the smallest but we use it year around.I can count on it starting any time no matter how cold not even plugged in. Once you let it warm up good it works fine a lot of cold oil to move for that little tractor. Quite often though when you try and give it more throttle it will start to sputter on a couple of cylinders. Back off on the throttle and it will catch up and be fine. This happens when it is cold or in the middle of summer, it just seems to be getting worse. It has done it all its life. It can get pretty annoying at times as it will do it repeatedly. Any suggestions as to cause and cure. Thanks Jim

I would lean towards an in ignition problem, perhaps points, plugs, cap and rotor. Also make sure your gas is without water and you have good fuel flow to the carb. Good luck!

Have you ever tried adjusting the load screw on the carb? It's possible it's just lean on fuel. Hesitation/sputtering on acceleration is a symptom of being lean. I usually adjust for a little black smoke under load, then lean out just enough to clean the exhaust up. Keep in mind you need to give a bit more fuel in cold weather, then lean it back out in summer due to cold air being denser.
