2440 Injector pump problem

Have a 2440 that starts and runs fine but when I decelerate quickly it dies. Will start right back up at that throttle setting. I've replaced lift pump and filter with no change. It's got to be something minor as there are no leaks on the injector pump and other wise runs fine. I'm pretty handy with mechanical stuff but would appreciate some guidance before I go into an injector pump.

Sounds like the metering valve is sticking, as that's how pumps act with sticking a valve. If speed is brought down slowly to idle and does not die then that usually confirms it. It MIGHT come out of it with some two cycle oil added to the fuel for more lubricity, and make sure there's no water in the fuel either. Another thing to try if pump has a mechanical shut down, with the engine running at high speed QUICKLY turn the fuel off/on with the stop. This mechanically moves the valve to off, and governor SHOULD move it back to fuel on. If engine dies, re start and try again. I've freed up several over the years this way, has been a couple that did need repair though as other problems were evident.

Dieseltech, Thanks so much for the response. What you pointed to really makes sense and I'll be lubing up my fuel tomorrow and see how it goes. Thank you ever so much..

Dieseltech; The stuck metering valve finally loosened up after about an hour of use. One quart of 2 cycle in 19 gallons of diesel did the trick. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.
