John Deere 3010

Had recently posted about my John Deere 3 0 1 0 that would not start The generator light would flash and could here the solenoid for the starter faintly kick in I was able to bypass everything and then it fired over the key worked for a while and then when I was plowing the driveway it died on me and acting like it did before and could not start it back up no power I then metered the key switch and found the power in correct but not power out on any terminals

Today I put a new switch in and metered it out before everything was correct I disclocated everything the was tied into the accessory spot left turn on the key switch as I don’t use anything I tried it and tractor turned over fine and started I pulled it into the shed and everything was running fine But something smelt hot there is what I believe is a resistor on the back of switch Looked to be Porclien it was very hot to the touch I shut the tractor off Is this how it works or am I missing anything

Resistor will be hot. That's the reason
for the porcelain sheild. It's disapating
heat from cutting the voltage in half for
the points.
