John Deere Engine Series Reference?

My basic question is there such a thing that lists engine series for the JD tractors, New Generation forward?

Back on Tractor Talk Forum there was a discussion regarding engine replacements for the 3020 engine. First there seemed to be some confusion regarding the engine in the 2510. According to TractorData the gas is 180 c.i. and the diesel is 202 c.i. The 2520 is 219 c.i.

So, in that discussion many engines were talked about including the 239, 270 (3020), 276, 404, 466, etc. I looked through TractorData to find some examples of where these and others were used. One reference was made to 300 series engines. How does that relate to the above sizes?

So, is there a reference that summarizes JD engines and where used New Generation and forward?

Thanks.

Paul

No known summary that I know of. The whole discussion was informal leaving some to research the background of those engines. Some are aware of previous threads where one engine was replaced and a different engine was substituted. It comes down to Tim S's statement about there being 3 different types of engine in terms of mounting. Briefly I will mention that the 276 was used in the 70 HP 2640 tractor and the 239 naturally aspirated was used in the 65 HP 2550. Getting to the nitty gritty the owner had an idea as to using a 2510 engine and myself among others countered there were more HP appropriate engines such as the 239 or 276. The 239 was also turbocharged for the 75 HP 2750. Further, there was a guy from the Carolinas that did stick a 6 cylinder JD engine into a 3020 who posted here.

Mr. NY 986, I get the idea maybe I offended you. Maybe it was my comment on the 2510 engines. If so I am sorry and did not mean to offend anyone. I was a little confused about what was in the 2510, looked it up, and shared it.

In the prior post regarding the 3020 on Tractor Talk you gave some great input that I think was very helpful to those interested. At least I was impressed anyway. lee little was very appreciative of all the help he got.

Best Regards, Paul

Thanks M-MAN. I Googled that and I see there is at least one reference that covers 30, 40, and 50 series tractors. I think I will ask at my dealership. Maybe there is something they can give me.

Thanks again.

Your welcome. A friend of mine I used to work for has one of those. Pretty sure it's just Waterloo engines but it lists all their applications including necessary changes. I have one somewhere on the Dubuque engines.
