1950 John Deere A flywheel out too much

Since the days have been getting warmer and the field have been getting muddy with a little snow. Anyone know how far the flywheel is supposed to onto the crank, looking at the wear mark going around the belt pulley, the belt pulley is farther out than it was before (but the belt pulley is as far as it wants to go on to the crank shaft), would this be causing the issues of the clutch not engaging the right way? We replaced the springs in the pulley and that hasn't fixed anything (one spring was bent a little, they were $6.00 each from Deere). If you have the nuts on the belt pulley too tight, the whole crank shaft moves back and fourth.

The crankshaft should have minimal end play, .005-.010. The nut on the flywheel end sets it. Loosen the bolts, adjust with the nut, stake it into the keyway and tighten REAL tight when you're done.

Wouldn't hurt to pull the flywheel off to check that the splines are not damaged. Just be sure to put it on in the correct position and line up the drive pin with the spacer.

In my picture you can just see the "V" stamped on the crank at the top. There should also be a similar mark on the flywheel. Obvious, I know, but I read a lot of posts here where they're put on wrong, the drive pin is broken or smashed or the splines are loose.

What drive pin?

It's pressed into the inside of the flywheel hub and engages a slot in the spacer. Maybe 1/8-3/16 dia., sticks out 1/4 inch. Been a long time since I had mine off, going by memory.

(quoted from post at 13:08:09 02/16/19) warmer ? Yesterday both highways serving this area were closed due to a snow storm..

Yesterday the temp was 50 and today the temp was 45.

[b:075894168c]Turns out the issue when the clutch wasn't staying engaged was caused by the crank shaft not being over to the left enough and flywheel not being father enough in. The clutch engages but doesn't snap. Now the clutch doesn't pop out like before. Another problem we have is that the brakes are cooked (going to be ordering parts for that tomorrow). Thank you guys for all the help
