Hi guys. There is a 4240 for sale that belongs to my second cousin. I'm interested but a little concerned because it has 11,000
hours. Engine, clutch, and pump were overhauled at 10,000. What would you be concerned about on it, and what price would you want
to stay below? I will use it probably less than 200 hours a year for haying mostly.

A well cared for and properly overhauled 4240 with cab decent rubber etc will bring 25000 CAN here everyday.

Tires. The air conditioning system could be an expensive repair if a lot of components need to be replaced. Also price a new cab upholstery kit if it needs one.

Neighbor just bought a 4040 quad with a cab on a farm sale with about 8000 hours. It was a dairy farm and the tractor was good but not fancy. He paid $13,000 for it. With today's farm economy prices have really come down on all but the sharp low hour tractors. Tom

The engine clutch and pump would have cost over $10K+ at JD.I assume they would have receipts and where you are distant relation doesn't hurt.Tires$1800,interior$800,A/C $800,general apperance all can be factors.Almost need a picture .The hours don't hurt them as much as sitting out or poor maintainence.THe 4240s are good tractors just that the turbocharged 4440 are better.I have seen many sell and it takes a extra nice 6000 hour one to bring $20K. usually they are in the $12/15K range but the O.H. should make it last a long time.I do some tractor appraisals and there is a lot of difference.

Thank you that is very helpful. I was wondering about it using a lot of fuel because not turbocharged. This one has had a cab kit and has almost new tires, but the air conditioning leaks off some.
