hello TIM and others,, dug into a 7230 today that died. when cranking, the engine sounded like major loss of compression, so i pulled the exhaust manifold to see the valve action. only #5 ex. valve was moving, so removed valve cover & found 10 majorly bent pushrods. the turbo is dumping oil into the intake,,but only #5 showed a slight wettness,, all others were normal dry exhaust. the customer said he added 4 GALLONS of oil to crankcase to fill it.. any thoughts how the pushrods are bent up??? if all that oil flooded in at once looks like it would hydro lock the engine,, and it seems all exhaust ports would be wet..

My guess is you have more than one thing wrong, would think the bent pushrods mean the cam is out of time.

Possibly too much oil passing the turbo caused a Hydraulic action and bent the push rods,,which can also bend rods,,my it sounds bad..it should have been covering the windshield with oil at that point...

THANKS for responding,, i'm waiting for pushrods,, BUTTTT,, i'm thinking something else is seriously wrong,, maybe valve timing???? i need to talk to the operator for more details,, smoke,, noise,,, the farm manager said it just died.. this is the third time this tractor has come in,, back in NOVEMBER it had been using coolant with no signs of a leak,, it got so it blew white smoke now and then,,finally a little coolant showed up in oil pan,, so i pulled the pan, pressure tested cooling system,, coolant was dripping from cam at #6,, so i pulled the head & found head gasket bad,, replaced #6 liner & head gasket. a month later turbo housing was dripping oil, so i had to replace the original turbo,, so now this turbo is leaking into the intake pretty bad,, warranty will cover turbo,, BUTT,, i think there is still some unseen problem here!!

There is something regarding the operation and/or service of this tractor we don’t know .
Any sign of ether cans anywhere ?
