John Deere Fan Shaft

I'm in the process of replacing the fan shaft seal on my B. When I took it apart I found there were no shims under the front shaft support. Must not have been replaced by a previous owner. Then when I removed the fan shaft tube I saw that the rear of the tube was badly worn with a hole wore thru it. This is because the shaft was out of alignment. There must be way to align the shaft as I'm sure that I am not the first person with this problem.
Thanks for any help.

I have an H and an A. Neither one had shims. Haven't ever taken the shaft off the A but did on the H to replace the bevel gears. I did the shim adjustment for the new gears on a bench and placed the whole fanshaft/governor on as a unit. I slid the front bearing side to side to find a neutral spot and tightened it down. A shaft that long will be fairly forgiving for alignment.

The only tractors I ever found fan shaft shims on have been later numbered series. And then they were likely the ones that had not had a lot of past work done on them.
Been years ago but on my H model I seem to remember putting a level on the main case and then on the fan shaft to check it. Don't remember if it needed shimmed or not ? but that was the only idea I could come up with to check one.
