4020 pencil injectors

I am in the middle of putting the engine back together after one of the injectors washed down the cylinder wall and scored the piston and cylinder wall up. At least I think it did since all of the damage is below the rings.

I need to know if I will be better off to have the injectors I have tested and rebuilt or buy new injectors. The price of new injectors very from $30 to $130 each. I am afraid of the $30 ones and don't want to pay $130 each if possible.

These are the pencil type injectors.

Thanks for any advice.

I would buy a new set of 4 but before I installed them, I would send them someplace reputable to have them all tested to ensure the break pressures are all the same and what they should be set to. Do you have the removal tool?

The original is Stanadyne number 20494, I've seen some aftermarket injectors with no markings that SEEMED to work OK on the pop tester. Some of the cheaper injectors will spring leaks after awhile at the banjo joint weld. Even some new Stanadyne injectors are made in China now..

I called the local diesel shop about pencil injectors
they have brand new stanadyne injectors for 60$
each . I have also used the John Deere reman
injectors and had good luck with them to

Injecters are a big question right now. The high priced ones might just be the cheap ones in a different package. Stanadyne injecters are now made in China. I bought the last USA set our local dealer had several years ago. I just bought some of the cheap ones and had a shop check them and they pop tested very good. I never had much luck with anything remanufactured as it seems they only replace the minimum to meet specs. Not sure I answered your question but am in the same place as you not being sure what is right.
