466 and the 496 engines?

i am changing directions on a few things and was just curious when the 466 engine came in and when it left, so according to tractordata, the 4630 got the 404, then the all but the 4040 got the 466 and that held until the 8310, when they came out with the 496, 8.1L. I had thought the 8300 got the newer engine as well, but i have never really looked to see what it was.

Are they a completely different engine, similarities? that kind of thing.

I am kind of looking for a 4630/40, or 4840 and was curious if the 8.1 would be a replacement engine if needed. or could a 8.1l be put in a 9500/9600

As near as the internet tells me, the 8.1L, so do you think that makes the block different, say as a replacement for a 466?

Not saying that everything would bolt right up, but would the block itself be a bolt in any then other items need figured out?

John Eatwell, i might not have said that very clear, the 8310 was the 8.1, 8300 was the 466.

Tim S, thanks!

maybe i should put a 8.1L in a 7020 HA!

At first (1993-1996), only the 8400 got the 496.
THen the late 8100 to 8300 got it.
All 8*10 plus the 7710 and 7810 got it.

The 8000 have a P Pump with electronic governor. You can put a mecanical governor on it. That is just a P Pump that you can find everywhere.
I do not know abouyt the 8010, but the 7710 had 3 injections systems. In line A pump, infamous VP44, and late ones had common rails.

A 7710 engine with A pump would be a great fit for a 4520. Those are true torque monsters…

fdt860,

that is very interesting information!

tell me thats not the same VP44 on the second gen cummins, 98.5 ish to 02 ish or whatever?
