Jd300 clutch

My first post here, I have a 1973 ish jd300 bachoe 3 cyl diesel. Does anyone know how many fuel filters this tractor should have, I can only find one CAV type just after the fuel pump. I also had a bad clutch pedal vibration when depressing the pedal, it suddenly disappeared one day and I noticed a metal rod hanging down that broke off a bracket near the tranny, any idea what the rod controls? The clutch still works fine.

Welcome to the forum.

Some had a single fuel filter assembly, some had a dual filter assembly. Sounds like you have a single as the dual has both filters on one housing. Word of caution if you use Wix or Napa Fuel filters for it, don't put a gasket in the recessed area around the outside of the filter element. The slots in that recess are the fuel outlets from the filter and putting a gasket there will plug them off. The gasket fits in the groove in the housing that the rim of the element fits into.

Since you say the clutch still works it may have been part of the clutch disconnect that fell out, hard to tell without seeing it. You can go to the John Deere on line parts catalogs at https://jdparts.deere.com/servlet/c...ountrySelected&country=US&language=19. Do a catalog model search for 300 and scroll down to find you parts catalog. I believe you want PC972. There are differences in some serial numbers and options the tractor is equipped with you will have to chose from to see the right clutch info.
