JD 620 field cultivator size

Hello,
Anyone pull or have pulled a field cultivator with a JD 620/630? If so what size and model? I am looking at a Morris 12ft model to pull for seedbed prep in the spring and uprooting grass so not very deep and wondering if it will do it. Thanks

In our heavy soil conditions, a 14' 650 tool carrier with sweeps worked the snot out of an 830.

2-3 inches deep should be OK using a 12' field cultivator. If you are not in a hurry to buy anything I would look for a 10' which would allow you to be more aggressive.

I think it will work. Field cultivators don't pull that hard especially if you are going shallow. JD use to advertise unstyled As pulling 10-12ft cultivators.

I can't imagine a field cultivator working up grass sod. They are a shallow tillage machine and if you could even get one to go into the ground deep enough to do any good, I would think you would tear the he11 out of it in short order. Would think a chisel run lightly over would be much better. Just my opinion as I have no experience working up sod.

If an established sod then it would be miserable but if the grass does not have much of a root system then he should be alright. I have a field that volunteer a lot of grass and as long as I hit the field early before the grass is several inches tall the field cultivator does fine.

By grass I meant grass in the spring within the wheat stubble or for seedbed prep for the following years crop. Not for sod breaking. Just to clarify.

That should work if not too much residue. Last summer, late, had some ground to prep for wheat that had been in wheat the previous year. First time over after harvest worked it with the disk. Then followed up after a rain with the field cultivator which worked well. Was needing to work it again later with the field cultivator but had lots of rain and the grass and volunteer wheat got out of control but I didn't want to rough up the ground too much so I used the cultivator again and it worked but had to go over some of it two or three times where the vegetation had got too tall and thick. Still made a pretty good seed bed. Wheat growing on it now looks good.
