12 volts to manifold. Pushed the key in part way, turned key, and counted to 20. Manifold is bearly warm to touch. Should it be hot to touch? If so then heater will have to be replaced? Comments? Thanks, Wayne

It's a "grid-type" heater at the inlet side of the integral intake manifold, made of a wide trip of heating element in a zig-gap pattern that heats the airflow passing through it, and it doesn't heat the manifold much.

It's one of those things that either works or doesn't, and if you ARE feeling heat, most likely it's just fine, it certainly doesn't heat anything beyond the heater itself enough to hardly notice..

There's likely an Amperage draw specification in the service manual, probably 50 to a hundred Amps, give or take.

They heat the air that goes through the manifold, not the whole manifold. Ours on our 4600 works great, starts with very little smoke, and if it starts smoking I push in on the switch and it stops smoking.
