JD 310D hoe

Greetings Greenies, A friend has a 310D hoe with reversing valve problems. Seems that the solenoid/magnets? are not available from JD. Anyone have any wisdom to share on this? One full inch of rain in the Cave creek area of Phoenix in the last 24 hrs! Good start for the year. Thanks, VH

It appears there is a serial number break in these parts and they are subbing the ones s/n 792482 and before to the manifold and solenoids used on s/n 792483. Is the 310D in the 792482 and before range? Is that what you found? Has your friend talked to a dealer to see if they can locate any old stock solenoids? He may have to make the upgrade, $$$.

mine did same thing i got mine off e-bay the early modal used one type and the late model used a different one and you replace the early one with the late model one

Ben and Jim, Thank you both for the info. The owner did ask the dealer about parts and was told not available. I will pass this on. Ebay may be his best bet unless he can find a donor in someones weed patch. Thanks again. VH

He should ask specifically about the substitution so he at least has the info if he needs it (and the dealer researches it as well).

Jim, thanks for the additional info and pics. I m told the wiring is a mess also, so I think the next step will be cleaning that up. It must be the early model with a single solenoid from what I am told. I have not seen these parts myself or worked on a 310. Has anyone tried to cobble up a manual stick/cable control for the valve, or is it buried too deep to access? VH

Did you try swapping the solenoids(just the electric magnet) to see if the problem moves to the forward function? Rarely the valves themselves go bad,it's usually the coil or a wiring problem, test the forward reverse switch to see if it is powering up in reverse. Did you check to see if the valves have power to them at the coil connection plug, and if they do, does the solenoid magnetize?Check it with a small screw driver on the post that holds the coil , if you have power, and the coil is working the screw driver should lightly stick. The electric magnet/coil is removable from the valve. New Holland uses that coil assembly on some skid steers, and may be interchangeable with your coils,Part # is 861291

I believe you will find the magnet (3) moves the internals of the solenoid (4), which is the valve, so it would be pretty hard to rig a manual control to the solenoid internals, at least in my mind. The nut on the end of the solenoid is only to hold the magnet on it. It is a long shot but, he might be able to take the magnet to a hydraulic shop and find one that matches.

Jim & MSM ,More good info. I m getting in over my head and am directing the owner to get on here and soak up some of this wisdom. Thanks, VH

If he doesn't have a repair/technical/test manuals I highly recommend he get them for it. The site to get John Deere's construction manuals is: http://www.johndeeretechinfo.com . There maybe several different ones, at least for operator's manuals, so he should have his serial number to check. He can order printed, disc, or download. It looks like there are two he should get TM1496 Operation, it will have troubleshooting and testing info in it, and TM1497 Repair has details of repair procedures. He might find used ones on eBay.

Thanks for all the input. I think the owner has seen all this by now. If and when I hear the "rest of the story" I ll report back. Another 3/4 in. of rain last night. The desert will bloom! VH
