John Deere 3010

Hey guys i have a john deere 3010, yesterday i was pushing snow, when all of a sudden the tractor died on me, slowly lost power and shut off and then back fired. Which it usually does when i dont let it cool down. Tried to start it back up, but would not turn over. Starter does not even try to turn. Thought maybe vapor locked, but just sounds dead. Battery is brand new, put a charger and same issue, tried to jump it and same issue. Can hear solenoid click and starter engage but sounds very weak when trying to turn over key. When in the knock before start the generator light will click and light up ever few seconds. Feels like a grounding or electronic issue but not sure. Any info helps.

Have you tried going straight to the starter? Curious as to the cause.

No i have not yet, i was going to today but the real feel is - 30 here in ND today.

Just though it was strange the the generator light would just pulse every few seconds with key on accessory and it makes a noise. I recently
had changed out the 540 pin in the gearing of the tractor. Not to fun btw

Battery may have failed! Can happen.

Remove the rectangular cover in front of the brake pedals and try to pry the engine over to see if it happened to seize. Be quicker than replacing the battery. Flat screw driver to remove the screws and turn engine over.

I had a similar problem on a Farmall Super M last week. WE fumbled with it for at least 30-45 minutes trying everything we could think of. To complicate matters this tractor has a new idea mounted picker on it. I got a young man to help me and got him to loosen the starter bolts and slide it back a little. As he pulled it back there was a little click. I then hit the starter and it worked. Bolted it back up and everything was back to normal. It must have hung up somehow. I hope you find your problem easily. Some of the little things that stop us can be hard to find. Good luck ! Lee

yes it is a gasser I bypassed the ignition and put a starter jumper and it turned over, must be something electrical, short bad solenoid etc
