3020 rockshaft control cable replacement.

Hi folks,
I've got a 3020 Diesel, s/n <122k, so, no side console etc. I broke the rockshaft control cable; I have a replacement on the way, but, is there anything I should know before I start?

Cable broke at the dash-lever end, actually the aluminum tube where it bolts to the inside of the dash broke, it had been feeling like it was binding for some time, so, I wonder if it hadn't been partially broken and then I finished it by ram-rodding it around in the cold weather moving snow.

Looking at the situation, it appears there is a retaining clip on the dash-lever, and then it runs down, likely under the operators floor area, then down to the right rockshaft housing and to the lever.

At the moment I just have the front panel of the dash off--where the starter button/light switch is, but, I assume I pull the floor and just replace--a dirty looking job, but, not the dirtiest.

Thanks,

Joe

Yup pull the floor pan, good time to clean and check batteries and cables also, soak the retaining bolt that holds the rear part of the cable housing, might need a new one, then there is a "E" clip for the
rear of the cable, get two of those since the first one gets dropped, usually.

Pretty easy job once you get the floor off might be a
bit harder with a cab hardest thing Is not losing the
haysus clips . If you haven?t bought the cable yet
Steiner tractor parts had the best price and it comes
with new ends

I just replaced mine last week, pretty straight forward. I think there were 6 bolts, 3 different sizes, which hold all the retainers in place. Have to remove the operator platform and right side rockshaft cover (if you have them).

Thanks all-- it wasn't bad. The worst was 50 years of hydraulic fluid, crap, dirt, husks, etc.. all under the operating platform.

The old cable was a bit of a bear to snake out, as it ran under hardline hydraulics and such, I changed the routing when I put the new one in to make it easier.

I did have two things; got all done, no start--safety switch! Checked the neutral, no worries--noticed that no lights, so, I pulled the floor *back* up (those spacers are annoying..) assuming I'd munged a wiring harness, it was then that I remembered to check the other safety switch, under the tractor--unplugged.

The other is the dif-lock disengage rod between the brake pedals and the diff.. what is that called! Mine appears to have worn thin and broken (or it's actually 2 pieces--one that goes to the pedals, and the other that is at the bottom of the diff lock pedal under the floor..). I've poked through the JD catalog trying to figure out what that is.

also: I did drop the e-clip! I was however, a smart monkey and put a bucket under me while I was working there to catch it :)
