1950 JD B Air filter

Hello All,
I am working on the B and I was wondering how do I clean the air filter element? I am half tempted to put it in bucket and run the old gas that came out of the
tractor through it or is it better I try to take the bottom screen off and just replace the mesh inside the canister? This this is pretty gummed up, I just rebuilt the
carb and don't want it to suck up the crap that is in this filter.

Since has both ends open, just take to carwash and clean from both ends.

I cleaned one with full strength Purple Power. I plugged the outlet with a rubber stopper and filled it upside down with PP and let it soak a couple of days. Then washed it out with hot water.
