I have a 1940 John Deere L that has Hercules engine. I just bought the tractor recently, when I was looking at it I forgot to check the oil. Got it home and checked it oil was milky. Seller told me he had put a new head gasket on it.I changed oil ran it for a bit oil is starting to get milky again. Thinking of pulling the head off and have it magna fluxed. I have never worked on a flathead before so is there anything I should look for when apart or any tips on reassembly?also what should head bolts be torqued to? Thanks in advance, Mark.

Before you pull the head change the oil again, there might have been enough milky oil in the system to make the new oil look like that. Might come out alright, but the head as well as a cyl or valve seat could be cracked.

Maybe pull the valve cover, sometimes there is a mess of snot on the underside, and would speed up the cleanup.
