round baler with plastic wrapping not net wrap

This may not be the ideal forum but you guys are very knowledgeable. I have a JD baler with net wrap. It does a great job. This past year however was extremely wet and we store most bales outdoors. The hay being feed this winter has a lot of rot due to the amount of rain. I was just wondering why the baler manufacturers don't offer a solid plastic wrap that could eliminate much of this waste. I'm not talking about haylage around the entire bale. I know some of the newer balers are coming out with this feature. I'm just talking the baler covering the same area as netwrap with cheap solid wrap. I also know JD has a b wrap but this stuff is very expensive.

You can buy bale sleeves that slip over the bales when you pick them up with the bale stabber. They work well for me. Bales come out looking like the day they were baled.

I know both NH and JD offer in baler film wrapping options on their balers and have for some time. I’m sure most others do as well but can’t say for sure. They still have moisture issues, rain that hits the bales on the ends puddles on the bottom and causes rot. But it seems its still less than traditional net or string when sitting on wet ground. Just what I’ve seen, I don’t have one myself.

Cant add too much except I know of a guy about 5 miles away from me that rolls 4x5's and they are wrapped in something that looks like black plastic sheeting like you are asking about. So I know it exists out there! I have never seen him baling so I dont know what brand of baler he uses tho.

I store all my net wrapped hay outside in rows with the bales sitting on truck tires. The rows of tires stay in place from year to year. The tires won't rot or have nails in them like skids do but minimize soil contact.
