Parts Tractors

Whats the most you guys would pay for a complete parts tractor. I have an option to buy a few. All complete with three point, Been sitting outside for 12 years and stuck. Most have water running out of dip stick. The group of tractors consist of a 820 that looks decent, Two 630s one with old front end loader. And a 730 diesel that is complete but had some block and frame repair done by a chop saw. No wide fronts, one set of rusty fenders. No weights or dual hydraulics or any other pricy option. All the tires are suspect. This guy had prolly 30 tractors sitting outside getting ruined by weather and rain. A nice 520 that was flooded and wrecked by Hurricane Katrina. 5 little H tractors, unstyled A, styled G, 430T, Decent 430W that was under the shed. What could i pay for them and come out by selling parts?

Dang. I would not mind having a 630 but too far away to be cost effective. A lot of the 2 cylinder tractors don't follow typical parts tractor pricing. Hard to say on most especially without a picture to know what the sheet metal and tires are like.

Im not buying any of those. Dont know anything about them. Are there anything rare to look for on those? One of them was flooded as well.

A few Pictures.

My personal feeling on the 630's and the 730 would be whatever scrap price per pound X whatever the weight of each is. As far as what the "market" might say would be 1,000-1,200 dollars per tractor just because they are row crop 30 series. Water in the oil most likely means a lot of the engine parts are junk. If the water in the coolant has a lot of minerals in it such as calcium or sulfur then it is a fair bet the radiator is in at best poor condition if usable at all. In an auction setting I might chase the price to 8-900 dollars under the basis that the transmission would not need much attention and a fair amount of mechanical parts could come from a 620. I would borrow a scope to see what is visible in the transmission case from a fill port. Others probably will have a better idea on the other tractors.

I wouldn't put more than $1000 in any of them.Time you get them pulled out and loaded on a trailer you have another $100 each or so in them if there is a running tractor there to help move them if they will even roll. The hitches and elephant ears and faster moving parts will get your money back on the 520 and 630s. Then you are stuck with carcasses that you might sell a few usable parts off of.If they have water in them figure the blocks/pistons are junk along with the trans parts due to rust and corrosion. Basically buy them for less than for what ever scrap is bringing in your area to cover your expenses for loading/unloading and hauling. With tractor prices falling you may make a few bucks but don't figure on hitting a home run.

I know a business that parts out JD 2 cylinders. Engine parts are of the highest demand with everything else very sparse. If the sheet metal and rims are not very good then it is still with the tractor. 3 out of 3 630's sitting there with transmissions basically untouched along with rusty wheels and sheet metal. If very little can be made from engine parts and a tractor lacks a factory 3pt hitch then it is best left to the scrap man.

I bought 9 in bunch about 10 years ago. Havent done any good on them. Put less than 500.00 each in them. Sold 2 for 500 each, took 2 to consignment sale cause were factory LPs made nothing been better off to left at home. Tore 2 down trying find good block and couple other pieces. Have late D that's stuck and couple early 40s letter ones that are kinda complete. Keep thinking next time scrap gets up around 8-10 cents pound they are gonna go.

Salvage steel has been around $135 a ton but can change quickly.Honestly from what you describe a lot of work with not much reward. There are always people looking for 2cyl parts and willing to take them off. I know a guy that will buy your car or tractor basically salvage and He has 100s of them and you can take off anything you want and that's how he makes a living. Eventually a car crusher comes in and makes room for more.I don't like the cluttered up look but have some guys at salvage yard that are always looking for weights or good JD stuff that guys just get tired of looking at.Last time I was there had set 2cyl front weights and several suitcase weights and a set of rear weights.I pay them double salvage and they are happy.I helped an estate get rid of everything and they had a 60 JD with 227 picker bought new picker never removed tach read 641 hours,it was inside but the tires had rotted but tach probably was right. Too bad it wasn't a 72 4020.THey did have a 71 with 2200 hours that I bought.
