Leon, as I'm writing this at 5PM on the 29th, the wind is at 27 MPH from the WNW and the air temp is -7. Windchill factor is -34, and that's forecasted to be the same temperature as the air tomorrow at midnight.... But not to worry, supposed to be up to 39 on Saturday and 41 on Sunday. That's Iowa, just wait a day or two and the weather will be completely different. Nothing like an 80 degree change in a couple of days...

We have dodged the snow, and don't have over a couple of inches on the ground but one that I heard quite often in the old days was....
Snow, hoe handle deep the very first blizzard, and colder than a Minnesota well digger's gizzard.

I think the part of the well driller's/digger's anatomy mine is referring to is less internal, more exposed than is the gizzard, somewplace where the sun don't shine!

In north central Iowa the chill factor was 60 below last night.It broke existing record.Was glad my well and tanks stayed thawed but we put auxiliary heaters and had them covered.Didnt start any thing with a diesel motor. Many years ago[1973] I raced a 500 mile snowmobile race from Winnepeg Canada to St Paul Minn and I remember it was -56 below in Canada when We started and the wind wasn't blowing.Didnt seem that cold but playing and working are two different things.Today I got cold quickly doing chores.
