Hydraulic leak

Hi everyone. I have a question. I spent the day
moving snow with the 3020 today, worked great.
After several hours I shut it down and when I started
it back up an hour or so later I noticed hydraulic fluid
leaking under the right side axle near the rear end.
It looks like it?s coming from around the diff lock
pedal area. I have a cab on the tractor, so I can?t
tell exactly due to the floor plate. My question is
what is in that area that I should look for. I can?t take
it apart right away because the weather is pretty
crappy and I can?t fit it inside. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

It's possible diff lock valve/lines are leaking but it's also possible rockshaft supply line could be the leak. Is your tractor an early or late model 3020(below or above serial # 123,000)?

It's not uncommon for the diff pedal valve to leak,,it's easy to fix,(with out a cab any way) pull the pedal pin and lift the pedal and shaft up out of the valve and replace the o-ring in the top of the valve.

I?m thinking that?s where it?s coming from. I have had the tractor about a year and had never used the pedal until yesterday. I used it a lot. I noticed it was sticking in the down position I had to pull it up manually. It was probably frozen. Now it?s popping back up when I hit the brakes like it should. That?s when it started leaking. The o ring must have gone south. Thanks for the help!

After looking at it a little closer, I think it?s leaking at the rock shaft seal (or possibly the supply line). All I had time to do was clean up the area, start it and try to see where it?s coming from. As soon as I pull the floor plate on the cab, I can get a better look. Is it possible to replace the seal with the wheel on?

I found the leak. It?s the supply line. Must be split where it bends over the rock shaft. It?s running down on top of the shaft making it look like the shaft seal was leaking. I?ll have a new rubber line made to replace it. I can?t seem to find a used metal tube.

No kidding! The hardest part is trying to remove the
floor plate. It won?t come out unless I pull the diff
lock pedal/valve assembly. What a stupid design. I
think I?ll just cut the plate to clear the pedal. Thanks
for the help!

I got the hydraulic line removed from the tractor, that
was a lot of fun. After removing the paint on the
area I thought it was leaking I found what looked
like about a 1/4? long crack. It wasn?t very big, and I
couldn?t tell if it went all the way through. I guess
when it gets hot and the fluid thins it?s enough to
leak. I understand the pressure is around 2200 psi.
Can I replace the line with a high pressure rubber
line? Is there another option? I can?t seem to find
an original steel one. I had to cut the original line to
get it out with all the bends in it.

You can replace it with a two wire reinforced hydraulic hose, which should be rated for 3000 psi or more. The place you get it made should be able to match the tube ID and end fittings of the tube, if you take it with you for them to see.
