Fuel Troubles for a JD 50

I've purchased a John Deere 50 last summer, but am having trouble starting this tractor. After choking this tractor for as long as a minute. I'll pull the plugs and they are dry. Fuel is coming out of the tank OK and even filling the carb bowl. But I can not get it to fire. I can have someone pull me and I've had good success getting it to run, but I don't always have a spare person handy for this. It has the DLTX-75 carb. Looking for a little guidance. Thanks.

Sixty year old tractor, when was the last time it ran, pull starting it would not make any difference if it is not getting fuel to the plugs. Have been working
on my 50 (ongoing problems have me going in circles) recently and had the carb professionally rebuilt. Too cold to get much done now. Unless you
know the history very well I would get the carb rebuilt.

I've had the tractor running several times since I bought it, never could count on it to reliably start on its own. Before I got it,, it had set a few years in a garage.

It seems like just replacing it with another is going to be difficult. I'm told they are a bit difficult to locate. I am going to ship it out tomorrow to Reily's tractor in Ohio. I'm thinking it may be my best bet.

Thanks for your imput.

My guess is that the choke is not closing. I had an A that had a spring actuated choke and if the choke shaft is dirty, the spring would not close the choke. I sprayed it up with carb cleaner and it freed up.

While the carb is off push on the choke butterflies and see if they stay shut and are spring loaded, this should be with the choke lever(on the carb) pulled back towards the carb. Choke lever pushed ahead the butterflies should be wide open and stay that way.

I did find the choke to be in the closed position due to the notch being on the wrong side of the spring, I've corrected this and have the choke working properly, but it still does not seem to want to start. I've been
leaning towards a professional rebuilt, the tractor is very much worth getting fixed. I do appreciate everybody's input. Sometimes it is a simple little trick to fix troubles.
