John Deere plow tool?

This was in a cigar box from my
Grandpa's stuff. Guessing it was used
to measure plow shares. Anyone use
one? Has a part number of p1622.

It says metric on it so they were produced after metric bottoms were introduced. I think metric bottoms appeared around 1980. I'm sure somebody has and exact year.
