4240 difference 466 vs 4440 466

(quoted from post at 14:09:35 01/18/19)
Cylinder head & pistons/liners are different between a 4240 & 4440

I can understand the difference in the liners due to bore, but the head is different as well? just valves or ports as well?

I wouldnt have guessed, i just thought bore, pump turned down and maybe "smaller" injectors....

Bore(4.562) of 4240 & 4440 liners is identical

The head is different as the valves on a turbo engine are much further up in the head as the turbo packs in the air. On a non turbo engine you need the valves out further to help with compression for starting. That is why when people add a turbo to a 4230 or 4240 they usually end up cracking the heads. Tom

Same bore, 4240 valves recessed, different pistons & rods, smaller holes in inj tips, rotary pump instead of in-line.

You have it backwards. Turbo engines have valves below the
head. That's why the pistons have to have reliefs machined
in.

The differences between the 6466D in a 4240 and the 6466T in a 4440.

Piston and rod, non-turbo engine has no valve reliefs, smaller wrist pin, slightly different ring pack. Connecting rod is different each using its own bearing, 4240 rod is gun drilled to lube the wrist pin, while 4440 is drill at the top to collect oil from the spray coolers. The sleeve while technically the same might not be hardened, depending on application.

Cylinder head, 4240 head has larger intake valves and a non-divided intake port as well and an intake manifold to match. Valves are recessed.
4440 has valves that protrude and valves reliefs in the piston to match. Divided intake ports and a manifold to match.
Rocker shaft hold downs, 4240 used 6 aluminum hold downs. 4440 uses 2 larger steel bridged hold downs on the ends and 2 aluminum ones in the middle.
4240 uses a thinner head gasket.

Oil cooler on the 4440 is larger, uses a spacer to allow for the larger cooler.

Obviously the 4440 is turbocharged.

Another obvious one, fuel system, 4240 uses a Roosa Master DM series pump with Bosch KDEL injectors with pop pressures setup to match and a cam driven fuel transfer pump.
4440 uses a Bosch “A” pump with air/fuel control with the same style injector with a slightly higher pop pressure.

I am unsure if there is a difference in the camshafts or not.

I think that’s everything. Did I miss anything?

Engine camshafts for 4240 & 4440 are different according to parts catalog
