ABG Cultivator Mounting

I'm working on mounting and ABG 200 cultivator to my A. I'm still working out how to raise/lower as I have a 3-point so the stock way won't work. Going to weld something up that bolts to my 801 arms this week and hope for the best. Might use chains from the top link to the lift arms to limit drop as I don't have the depth adjusting arms. No rear sweeps for this cultivator.

Anyway, in the photo below, is the front top part supposed to attach to anything or can it simply float like this? This will be a working cultivator and not shown.

PS. I drove 10 hours one way to pick this up and on the way back talked with a guy that had just cut up a 4-row front mount for his scrap pile. He gave me lift pipes and the front bill and laughed about me going all that way to pick up junk. His scrap pile was disturbing.

I can't help you any, but your project brings back so many memories.

I borrowed an ABG200 frame/bean puller once and was surprised to see that there was no top "button" up front like on our bean pullers and 4 row cultivator. Our bean pullers[2 row] and cultivator went from B's and 50's to a pair of 2510's. By then, if I'm remembering correctly, they all had the later "drive-in" attachment with the top support, going on the pin bolted to the front of the tractor. I still have the two front mount brackets [bottom plate, and top nub] and two sets of the short, rear lift arms for new gen[both before, and side console] tractors. Dad's four row[complete] still sets in the shed where he parked it last. He's been gone since late 1992.

I hate to scrap this stuff. Maybe someone else will, or if I live long enough, I'll get sick of it. I've already scrapped all the old pieces and parts we had collected for the bean pullers.

Something does not look right . I had a similar problem years ago and I had the wrong front framework. I can not remember what was wrong
but I think it was to short. There is a bracket on one of my tractors that bolts on the front of the tractor on the top too. I have three of the
cultivators and I know they wont fit just any tractor . I think the pedestal is taller on my A than on my B but I am not sure. I mounted My 4 row
on the 620 a few years ago and had to dig in the dirt for the lift arms. That one had the front framework for a narrow front and I had to get it for
a wide front.

Do you have an 801 three point hitch? There are lift brackets that bolt on to the lift arms that bolt on to them. They were for the No. 50 rear rig. If you have an operators manual for the No. 200 series two row cultivators for the ABG and 50,60,70 tractors there's a picture of them. Found a set for a friend of mine in a pile of parts that guy that had bought at a closed dealership. hope this helps, john

It looks like I'd need not only the button/alignment bullet, but also a different piece of metal connecting the truss rods. What I can't wrap my head around is what was the original point of that metal piece if one was to replace it. It seems like you either bolted the truss rod to the pedestal, used the button, or had what I have.

I was thinking and hoping it wasn't necessary, but posting got me thinking that the bullet would support the truss rods and thus the outer ends of the cultivator. However, the front posts and the top metal brace probably do the same thing already.

I'm going to keep the 3-point. I don't like the idea of swapping arms every time I want to use the cultivator. I'm going to bolt some beefed up plate to the arms as per these mock up photos. The swivel will be at the front, opposite of how it normally is. Seems to align better with the bent pipes.

I'll look again, I was going through the book earlier today and didn't see that. The book is all over the place though. They show the quickattach button, rods posted to the pedestal, and my same bracket, but don't mention how my bracket is to be used.

The two row ABG all had the cross bar just as you show. The 4 row and all number series tractors had the bolted on "peg" to add more stability when rigs started pulling back Yours is correct .

I quickly attached my custom lift mount and took these poor pictures I wanted to share. I think this is going to work out. I’ll get some shorter pins. And no mocking the welds. It’s my first time welding.

(I think I’ll ignore the upper bracket issue for now and see how it goes with a light drag through the dirt early this season)
