John Deere 430 hydraulic question

Can I attach a hydraulic pump to the PTO that use to turn the mower deck for better performance then the hydraulic factory set up

I am assuming you are talking about a hydraulic drive mower, you could use a hydraulic PTO pump on a 430 but unless you have live PTO it will quit working when you push in clutch. Might be better to drive a pump off the front of the crankshaft. A lot of the older small tractors did that when running a loader.

Heck YA!

A couple of years ago I installed a DEERE #44 hydraulic drive tiller on the 3-point hitch of my New Holland GT75 LGT.

The GT75 has a PTO in the front that's very similar to the setup your "430" has.

I used a short PTO shaft from the rear-facing shaft of the front PTO to drive the tiller's hydraulic pump.

I made a bracket for the pump that attaches to the "belly mower" mounts and the whole setup is easy to remove, if desired.

IIRC, both your tractor and mine have a forward-facing PTO shaft, as well, and the pump could also be driven from there.

Also, (again IIRC) I believe the PTO's on both machine run at 2000 RPM.

All you need is a pump of the correct rotation, with a displacement that will give the flow you need that's rated for that speed and a mount and an appropriate drive setup.

Check out SurplusCenter.com for a variety of pumps.

My tiller has it's own reservoir, so nothing need to be changed there.

What are you running with the hydraulics?

I've seen some loaders for machine of this size that drive the pump off of the front PTO, as well.

I don't recall, offhand, the model number of a DEERE loader that would fit a 430, would be interesting to look in the parts catalog to see what they used for hydraulics.

I'm building a front end loader I know welding and metal and nothing about hydraulics would it be worth using the four ports on the front of the tractor and thanks for your replies

I have no idea of the flow requirements for your loader to make reasonable movement/cycle times, so I can't be of much help with your question.

The factory hydraulic system for a Model "420" is rated at 3 GPM, the "430" may or may not be the same, I don't have a "430" shop manual at hand.

IIRC, the "44" tiller pump is set up to provide 10 or 11 GPM.

Hope this is of SOME help!
